Jake Paul’s recent engagement to Olympic speed skater Jutta Leerdam came with a sweet backstory involving a last-minute switch to her engagement ring—all thanks to Selena Gomez. Originally, Paul had a unique ring made for Leerdam that included personal details like an oval-shaped diamond (to symbolize a speed skating rink), two heart accents, and both their birthstones. But after Leerdam saw Selena Gomez’s ring—which had diamonds along the band—she changed her mind about the style she wanted.

Paul told Us Weekly that Leerdam was immediately drawn to the sparkle on Gomez’s band and said, “I love the diamonds on the band.” The only problem? Paul already had her ring in hand and was preparing to propose. Not wanting to disappoint her, he quickly sent the ring back to the jeweler and had it modified to include the extra diamonds. It was a tight timeline, but the jeweler pulled it off in just 10 days.

He proposed on March 21 in romantic St. Lucia, surprising Leerdam with a proposal followed by her parents appearing to celebrate the moment. She called it the “best day ever,” even though she had a small feeling a proposal might be coming.

The couple is now happily engaged but taking their time with wedding plans. They’ve decided to wait until after the 2026 Winter Olympics to start serious preparations, as both of them are focused on their demanding careers.

Jake also shared how much Jutta has positively influenced his life. Her dedication as a professional athlete has pushed him to be more disciplined himself—often motivating him to work out even when he wasn’t planning to. He even told her early in their relationship that he wanted to be like her one day—specifically, to reach the level of a world champion.
