It has been claimed that the tunnel has been made for military movement of Hamas militants and would also serve as a launching point for attacks. IDF said that it will be destroyed as they considered it as a “strategic infrastructure.”

In a statement Sunday, the IDF alleged that the tunnel system was a project of the brother of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, Muhammad Sinwar. No evidence was provided to support this claim.
