Israel-owned ship hijacked by Iran-backed Houthi rebels near Yemen

Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who are currently the already chaotic Yemen, have seized control of a cargo ship partially owned by an Israeli shipping magnate.

The hijacking which took place in the southern Red Sea near Yemen was described as “grave incident of global proportions” by an Israel Defense Forces spokesperson.

Al Hadth reports the ship is called the Galaxy Leader, and sails under the Bahamian flag.

It is claimed that there are 22 crew members aboard, but none of them are Israelis. All are said to be civilians.

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office blamed the Iranian terrorism for the incident, on Sunday morning. It was called as leap forward in “Iran’s aggression against the citizens of the free world.”

The ship was seized after it left Turkey, which was bound for India.

The boat is owned by Israeli shipping magnate Abraham “Rami” Ungar of Ray Shipping Ltd.
