Tony Romo, former NFL quarterback turned popular CBS Sports analyst, recently shared his thoughts on one of the most talked-about celebrity couples of the moment, Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift. And in his view, this high-profile romance might actually be a good thing for the Kansas City Chiefs star.
Speaking to Us Weekly, Romo explained that Kelce’s life has shifted in a more grounded direction. “People might not realize it,” he said, “but he’s probably doing less than he did when he was younger.” He pointed out how Kelce, now often seen out to dinner with Taylor Swift, seems to have settled into a more mature routine, almost like he’s married. Romo emphasised that while Kelce was hardly ever caught on camera during past nights out with friends, now he’s regularly snapped during low-key date nights with Swift.
And Romo’s impression of the pop superstar? Glowing. He called Swift a “wonderful, wonderful girlfriend,” a clear stamp of approval.
As for concerns from football fans who might worry that Kelce’s off-field fame is overshadowing his game, Romo doesn’t see it as a problem. In fact, he believes it might be helping. “If you look at it closely,” he said, “it can be a net positive.” The attention might be intense, but Romo sees it as a sign of growth and balance in Kelce’s life, not a distraction.
Now, it’s true that Kelce’s 2024 season wasn’t exactly his best. Statistically, it was his lowest year in terms of touchdowns and receptions. But Romo isn’t worried. He believes Kelce will bounce back strong, noting that the tight end was “living under a microscope” all season due to his extremely public relationship.
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift officially began dating in September 2023, and since then, they’ve been at the centre of major media buzz. Whether it’s showing up at each other’s events or simply being spotted on date nights, they’ve quickly become one of the most recognisable celebrity couples today.
And as for Romo? With 13 seasons as the Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback under his belt and now a respected voice in sports media, his insights carry weight. So if he says Kelce and Swift are a good match—and possibly even good for Kelce’s career—there’s a solid chance he’s onto something.
