In Marvel comic lore, Hank Pym was the original Ant-Man, joined by Janet Van Dyne as the Wasp, embodying the insect-themed superhero duo. Scott Lang, however, was a later addition to the Ant-Man legacy. While Hank’s contribution is acknowledged in the Marvel films, it’s Paul Rudd’s portrayal of Scott Lang that steals the spotlight, infusing the character with humor and unlikely heroism, making him a fan favorite in the franchise. This shift in focus raises intriguing questions, particularly in light of another Marvel venture.
In Deadpool & Wolverine, the highly anticipated crossover featuring the Merc With the Mouth (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), the multiverse takes center stage. Given Deadpool’s penchant for boundary-pushing content, speculation runs wild regarding who will don the Ant-Man mantle in this unconventional film.
Is the Ant-Man skull in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ Scott Lang’s or Hank Pym’s?
The trailer for Deadpool 3 tantalizingly hints at a significant role for Ant-Man, showcasing a giant Ant-Man skull utilized as a hideout. While the identity of this fallen hero remains shrouded in mystery, additional footage released sheds some light on the situation. In a new clip, Deadpool quips about the skull, cheekily remarking, “Huh, Paul Rudd finally aged.” This playful jab not only nods to Rudd’s ageless persona but also hints at the fate of Ant-Man in the film.
Interestingly, the prime Ant-Man in Deadpool 3 appears to deviate from the portrayal of Hank Pym, leaving Scott Lang’s fate uncertain. While this revelation may disappoint Lang’s enthusiasts, it opens up intriguing possibilities for the character’s narrative arc. After all, in the realm of comic book storytelling, definitive deaths are rarely permanent.
Just as Logan returned after his supposed demise in the 2017 film, there remains hope for Ant-Man’s resurrection, especially considering the fluidity of timelines in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The rules of Deadpool’s universe, characterized by its penchant for both adherence to and subversion of established norms, add an extra layer of uncertainty.
As fans eagerly await the theatrical premiere of Deadpool 3, set for July 26, they anticipate discovering the fate of Ant-Man and witnessing the irreverent antics that have become synonymous with the Merc With the Mouth.
