Stargate SG-1 continues the story that began in the 1994 movie Stargate. The film introduced the idea of a mysterious ancient gate. This gate allows people to travel instantly to distant planets.
The series is set about a year after the movie. It follows Colonel Jack O’Neill, played by Richard Dean Anderson. He leads a special team through the Stargate on dangerous missions.
Is Stargate SG-1 coming back to Netflix?
The classic sci fi show Stargate SG-1 is making a return to Netflix. The series originally aired from 1997 to 2007 and has been missing from the platform for several years.
All 10 seasons will arrive on Netflix from 15 February 2026. The release will include the US and several other countries. The UK is confirmed to be part of the deal.
The team includes Dr Daniel Jackson, an expert in ancient cultures. Major Samantha Carter, a brilliant scientist, is also part of the group. Teal’c joins them later. He is a former enemy who turns against the powerful Goa’uld and chooses to help Earth.
Over time, the show became a huge success. This led to spin offs like Stargate Atlantis, which takes place in another galaxy. Stargate Universe followed a darker story set on an ancient spaceship. Two TV movies later wrapped up the main storylines of SG-1.
The show was previously available on Netflix in the US. It was removed in December 2022, disappointing many long time fans.
The return of SG-1 also comes as the franchise moves forward. A brand new Stargate reboot is now in development for Prime Video.
The project is being led by Martin Gero. He has worked on Stargate before and knows the universe well. He has said the franchise shaped his entire career and means a great deal to him.
Gero has promised something special for loyal fans. He has also said new viewers are in for an unforgettable experience.
