After breaking box office records with Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds is already gearing up for his next big project, which will bring together his Merc with a Mouth and the famous X-Men. The actor, known for The Proposal and Green Lantern, recently revealed at the Time 100 Summit that he’s working on a new movie that will team up Deadpool with several key mutants from the X-Men universe.
According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds is still shaping the story, but it’s expected to feature at least three or four major X-Men characters. While the focus will mainly be on these mutants, Deadpool won’t take center stage this time—instead, he’ll play more of a supporting role, hanging around the edges of the spotlight.
Reynolds apparently wants to keep his loud, wisecracking character in a more background role, giving the other heroes a chance to shine in fresh and surprising ways, which has fans pretty excited. What’s interesting is that this new Deadpool story is something Reynolds has been quietly working on despite previously saying he might never put on the red suit again.
It’s important to note that this project is separate from the Deadpool movie Marvel Studios is currently developing. Plus, Reynolds hasn’t shared this new plan with Marvel boss Kevin Feige yet.
Reynolds has already had success reviving Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine for a new generation, so fans are eagerly waiting to see what he cooks up next with these iconic Marvel characters.
