Amidst the struggling Multiverse Saga, weighed down by disappointments like The Marvels and Secret Invasion, it seems the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is finding its lifeline in a wave of nostalgia for the late ’90s and early ’00s. The revival of Deadpool & Wolverine with actors from the Fox era, the monumental success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which brought back Tobey Maguire and surpassed the $1 billion mark, and the announcement of X-Men ’97 are clear indicators of this trend. Additionally, there’s the highly anticipated Blade reboot adding to the mix.
Blade, although not a central figure in the comics, holds a special place in cinematic history as the catalyst for the modern Marvel movie phenomenon. Wesley Snipes’ portrayal of the Daywalker in the late ’90s and early ’00s garnered significant attention, laying the groundwork for Marvel’s cinematic ventures. Fans rejoiced when Mahershala Ali was announced to take on the role in the MCU.
However, Blade’s journey to the big screen has been riddled with setbacks, with numerous delays pushing its release date further. Despite these challenges, the latest updates suggest a brighter outlook for the project. Reports indicate that Ali is satisfied with the current script status, a significant development considering previous script issues. Nonetheless, scheduling conflicts and Marvel’s packed agenda pose significant hurdles.
While there’s reassurance that Blade is still on track, it might require additional fine-tuning before hitting theaters. Amidst the updates, it seems I’ve exhausted my quota of vampire puns.
