Is Marjorie Taylor Greene now declaring war with Mexico?

The divide between genius and stupidity is often depicted as thin, but in the case of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), it seems more like a vast chasm. While a genius may offer perspectives that inspire awe, MTG’s worldview is so skewed and alarming that it leaves others questioning if she’s operating on an entirely different plane of existence. Indeed, if there were another planet willing to welcome her, many might encourage her swift departure.

The most recent illustration of what can only be dubbed “Marj-Vision” revolves around her response to the proposal by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) to address immigration into the United States. AMLO suggested that the U.S. commit $20 billion annually to aid poor countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, lift sanctions on Venezuela, end the Cuban embargo, and legalize law-abiding Mexican immigrants in the U.S.

Unsurprisingly, MTG vehemently opposed such a proposal, but her response this time borders on the absurd. She accused President Obrador of waging war on the United States, suggesting that he’s essentially blackmailing the U.S. into meeting his demands under threat of continued immigration.

In her own words, Taylor Greene exclaimed, “The President of Mexico says they will keep invading our country until we pay the bribe… This is a war. He is basically saying either we meet his demands or the invasion continues.”

While some echoed her sentiments with warmongering rhetoric, others rightfully criticized her for promoting violence while hypocritically claiming to oppose it. One commentator pointed out her inability to maintain order in the House, referencing the infamous incident where MTG was laughed at by her colleagues.

In contrast to MTG’s divisive rhetoric, President Obrador shared a humorous anecdote about his interaction with former President Trump regarding the border wall. When Trump brought up the topic, Obrador deftly shut him down by highlighting the existence of tunnels from Tijuana to San Diego. Trump, unable to counter, could only acknowledge defeat with laughter.

As Easter approaches, a time associated with peace, Marjorie’s attempts to stir up conflict seem incongruous with the spirit of the season. Perhaps she could benefit from less time in her social media echo chamber and more time reflecting on the principles of peace and compassion found in religious teachings.
