Kelvin Joseph, a football player who used to be in the NFL and now plays in the UFL for the DC Defenders, has gotten into very serious trouble with the law. Police say that early on Saturday morning, just after 5 a.m., he was driving his BMW car on a highway in Texas when he crashed into a motorcycle. The person riding the motorcycle, a 27-year-old man named Cody Morris from Plano, Texas, died because of the accident.

What did Kelvin Joseph do?

After the crash, Joseph called the police himself to say that he had been involved in the accident. He told them who he was and that the crash had happened while he was driving north on U.S. Highway 75 in Richardson, Texas. When the officers arrived and spoke to him, they noticed that he showed signs of being drunk or under the influence of alcohol. This means he may not have been fully alert or safe to drive at the time.

Because of that, the police arrested him. He is now facing two charges. One is a misdemeanour, which is a less serious crime, for driving while intoxicated (DWI). The other is a felony, which is a very serious crime, for being involved in a crash that caused someone’s injury or death. If he is found guilty of the felony, he could go to prison for many years.

Who is Kelvin Joseph?

Kelvin Joseph is 25 years old and originally comes from Allen, Texas. He was once seen as a promising football player. He got drafted into the NFL in 2021 by the Dallas Cowboys. He played with them for two seasons and appeared in 26 games, starting in three. But his career didn’t go as smoothly as hoped. After playing with the Cowboys, he moved around to different teams, including the Miami Dolphins, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Indianapolis Colts. In 2023, he joined the Seahawks but only played in one game. He had also spent time with the Minnesota Vikings on their practice squad and had a brief offseason spell with the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 2025, Joseph joined the DC Defenders, a team in the UFL (United Football League), which is a smaller professional football league. So far, he has played in nine games this season and has started in seven of them. His team is scheduled to play in a big playoff game, the XFL Conference Championship, on Sunday, June 8. But now, because of the crash and the charges against him, his future as a football player is uncertain. This legal case might end up cutting his football career short, especially if he’s found guilty and sent to prison. The whole situation is very serious, and it has shocked a lot of people who followed his career.
