The Green Bay Packers’ season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil took a dramatic twist when their star quarterback, Jordan Love, went down with a leg injury, leaving fans and teammates worried about the future of their season.
The injury happened in the final moments of the game as Love tried to lead a game-winning drive. Under heavy pressure from Eagles defenders Josh Sweat and Jalen Carter, Love managed to toss the ball to running back Josh Jacobs just before being tackled. As he fell, his left leg twisted awkwardly under Carter, causing visible pain and concern.
Seeing Love grimace in pain and needing help to get off the field, the Packers and their fans braced for bad news. This injury couldn’t have come at a worse time, as Love recently signed a massive four-year, $220 million extension, solidifying his role as the team’s franchise quarterback. However, there’s a bit of good news: the injury might not be as serious as it first seemed.
How long will Jordan Love be out?
On Saturday, September 9, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that initial tests showed Love’s ACL was intact, which was a huge relief for the Packers. If he had torn his ACL, Love would likely miss the entire season after undergoing surgery.
But while this is a positive sign, Love’s full recovery timeline is still uncertain. When the team returns to Green Bay, he’ll undergo more testing, including an MRI, to get a clearer picture of the injury. These tests will help determine the severity of the damage and how long he’ll be out.
Even though an ACL tear seems unlikely, there are still other injuries that could keep Love sidelined for a while, such as a high ankle sprain, MCL sprain, or even a patella dislocation. The next few days will be crucial in figuring out the true nature of the injury and how soon Love can return to the field.
The Packers’ medical team is doing everything they can to assess and treat Love’s injury as quickly as possible, and fans are hoping for a speedy recovery. Before getting hurt, Love had a strong performance, completing 17 of 34 passes for 260 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
In the meantime, backup quarterback Malik Willis will step in to lead the team. Packers fans are on edge, knowing that the start of their season couldn’t be more intense.
