Bam Adebayo and the Miami Heat have been through a lot together. Since being picked 14th in the 2017 NBA Draft, Bam has grown into a key part of the team, both on defence and as a playmaker. He’s been loyal, hardworking, and has developed into one of the league’s more unique big men.
But now, the team might be reaching a point where tough decisions have to be made.
A well-known Miami sports writer, Ira Winderman, recently said that the Heat should consider trading Bam. Why? It’s all about timing and money.
Next season is the last year before Bam’s huge new contract kicks in, one that will pay him a massive $51 million in the 2026-27 season alone. By then, Bam will be almost 29 years old, and there’s concern that his age and the team’s direction might not match up anymore.
Of course, this doesn’t mean the Heat have to trade him. If Bam steps up next season and leads the Heat to the top of the Eastern Conference, this whole conversation could shift. But if things don’t improve and the team doesn’t look like a real contender, a trade might start to make more sense.
Bam is a rare type of player, a 6’9″ centre who can pass and defend like crazy. He’s incredibly valuable, but not the easiest player to build a system around. Plus, his big contract could make things complicated in terms of what another team is willing to give up for him.
So, will the Heat actually trade Bam? Right now, nothing’s certain. But with big money and big decisions ahead, it’s something fans should keep an eye on.
