Is Hunter x Hunter returning?

Yoshihiro Togashi, the mastermind behind Hunter X Hunter, recently thrilled fans with big news about the return of his beloved manga series. After several long breaks due to his ongoing health struggles, the next chapter is officially set to drop on October 7, 2024. This release will pick up right where the “Succession Contest Arc” left off in Weekly Shonen Jump.

Unlike earlier arcs, which focused on characters like Gon and Killua, this one shifts the spotlight to Kurapika. In this arc, Kurapika finds himself in the middle of a fierce royal battle for the throne, tasked with protecting an infant prince aboard a crowded cruise ship. The storyline introduces some new and creative Nen abilities, adding complexity and tension to the plot as the characters navigate the high-stakes, claustrophobic environment of the ship. Fans have been eagerly waiting for this continuation, and it’s set to push the story in bold, unexpected directions.

Togashi has also shared insights into his unique process for creating the manga. He explained that while he still handles character inking and background drawings in the traditional way, he now uses digital tools to add effects and final touches. This hybrid approach has allowed him to stay true to his artistic style while keeping up with the evolving tools in the manga industry.

However, alongside the excitement, Togashi also gave fans an update on his health. He mentioned that his chronic back pain, which has caused repeated delays, was linked to his posture during the coloring process. Fortunately, after receiving treatment, he’s feeling much better and is able to continue working more comfortably.

While the manga’s return is now on the horizon, there’s still no word about when the Hunter X Hunter anime might come back. The last time it graced the screen was back in 2014, when Studio Madhouse adapted the series. Whether they’ll continue from where they left off or reboot the anime entirely is still a mystery, leaving fans eagerly waiting for any news on that front.
