The final episode of Duster just aired, and it ended with some major surprises. One of the main characters was left in a dangerous, uncertain situation, and fans still don’t know if they’re alive or not. On top of that, a mysterious character who had only been mentioned before finally appeared. Not only is this person alive, but it looks like they could be stirring up some serious trouble.
Because of all this, the ending felt like it was setting up the story for another season. There are so many questions left to answer and storylines to explore. So naturally, a lot of fans were hoping this meant Season 2 was on the way.
But just before the finale aired, on Wednesday, July 9, some disappointing news came out. HBO Max announced that Duster would not be coming back for another season. That means the show is officially cancelled, and what we saw in the final episode is all we’re going to get.
This news hit fans hard, especially because the show had finally picked up momentum with its big twists and cliffhangers. It was created by J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan, two names that carry a lot of weight in the TV world, so people had high hopes for more episodes.
For now, it looks like Duster won’t be continuing. But as we’ve seen with other shows, things can sometimes change if there’s enough fan support or if another network or platform picks it up. What would have happened in Duster Season 2?
If Duster had gotten a second season, there were a lot of unanswered questions and dramatic moments that the show could have explored. One of the biggest cliffhangers was what happened to Ezra Saxton after he was shot in the chest. We don’t know if he survived, and that’s a big deal because it would affect his kids, Royce and Genesis. The last we heard, Royce was still at the hospital, likely waiting to see if his father would make it.
There was also Izzy’s battle with cancer. She had just started chemotherapy, and we don’t know how that journey would have unfolded. Plus, it would’ve been interesting to see how that affected her bond with Jim, whom she still calls “Uncle Jim,” even though he’s her dad. That complicated relationship had just started to shift, and the second season could’ve shown us how they figured things out.
Another big storyline that was just getting started was Nina’s new role working with the FBI. She was helping track down a major national security threat named Xavier, who turns out to be Jim’s long-lost brother, Joey. Jim and Wade thought Joey had died in an explosion, so finding out he’s alive added a huge twist. Nina also revealed that it was Saxton who helped Joey disappear, which could’ve led to even more drama if the story continued.
LaToya Morgan, one of the show’s creators, even told TV Insider she was looking forward to exploring Joey’s character more. She said they had big plans for him, like who he is now, what kind of trouble he’s been in, and how his return could shake things up between Jim and Nina, who were just starting to build some trust. She hinted that Joey would be a wild card, creating tension and stirring things up. She also said that a possible romance between Jim and Nina, or even Jim and Izzy, was still something they were considering.
All in all, the second season had a lot of emotional and dramatic threads it could’ve pulled on. But now that the show’s been cancelled, fans are left to imagine how all those storylines might have played out.
