Elsbeth has officially been renewed for a third season, with Carrie Preston expected to reprise her role as the quirky lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni. The renewal was confirmed by Deadline, sparking excitement among fans eager to see Preston’s return.
Preston first portrayed Elsbeth in a guest role on the Emmy-winning series The Good Wife in 2009, and later reprised the character in the sequel, The Good Fight, beginning in 2017. Her continued presence has reassured fans that the beloved character isn’t going anywhere soon.
While CBS has confirmed the show’s return, it has yet to announce other cast members for the new season. However, Carra Patterson, who plays NYPD officer Kaya Blanke, recently confirmed her departure from the series. In an interview with Deadline, Patterson explained that her character is “embarking on a new adventure,” and she is excited for what’s next.
Patterson also revealed she will return as a guest star next season, where fans will see what Kaya has been up to in her new role as a detective, alongside Carrie Preston and Wendell Pierce.
Preston, who is also known for her work on True Blood, shared in an interview how much she enjoys playing Elsbeth. The 59-year-old actress described the role as “such a delicious character,” giving her creative freedom and comfort after playing the part for so long. She added, “I was also looking forward to seeing what it would feel like to be the full meal and not just the side dish, so to speak.”
At the end of season 2, Kaya was promoted to an undercover agent. The show’s producers have indicated that while Kaya won’t appear in every episode, she will remain part of the show’s world.
