Ben Affleck is focusing on a fresh start a year after his divorce from Jennifer Lopez, which was finalized in January 2025. Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, marking the end of their second marriage, with the official separation date listed as April 26. Since the split, Affleck has been taking time to rebuild his life.
According to sources, Affleck is happy and has shifted his focus toward his personal life and work. He told GQ in April that there was no major scandal behind the breakup, and it was simply a case of two people trying to figure things out. Affleck also addressed the speculation fueled by Lopez’s 2024 documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told, clarifying that the documentary wasn’t the cause of their split. He explained that viewers wouldn’t fully understand the complexities of their relationship from watching the film.
Since the divorce, Affleck and his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, have grown closer. The two, who share three children—Violet, 19, Fin, 16, and Samuel, 13—have maintained a strong co-parenting relationship. They were recently spotted volunteering together for Thanksgiving in L.A., and they celebrated Samuel’s birthday in March with a fun paintball outing. Sources say their relationship has deepened, but there is no romantic involvement; it’s all about trust and familiarity, which helps them co-parent effectively.
Garner, who has been in a relationship with businessman John Miller since 2018, has occasionally spent time with Affleck without their children, according to insiders. Affleck, who lives near Garner in Brentwood, is very focused on his kids and career. He shared with GQ that being home when his kids get off the bus at 3:45 PM is something that means more to him than anything else.
Professionally, Affleck is promoting The Accountant 2, which hit theaters in April, and is also working with Matt Damon on the Netflix crime thriller RIP, set to be released this fall. While he is casually dating, he’s not actively seeking a serious relationship. He briefly tried the dating app Raya, but it reportedly didn’t suit him, and now his friends joke about trying to set him up. Despite the matchmaking attempts, Affleck is enjoying his independence and feels content with where he is in life.
