The Nigerian drama series Baby Farm is doing really well on Netflix. Right now, it is one of the top 10 most-watched shows on Netflix in the United Kingdom.
The show tells a serious and dark story about a woman named Adanna, played by actress Rita Dominic. In the story, Adanna becomes pregnant and is then captured and kept as a prisoner by a powerful and secretive group.
Because so many people are now watching the series, a lot of them are curious. They want to know if the story is based on real-life events or if it is completely made up.

In the story, the organization is led by a British couple who live in Nigeria. They act like they are kind, rich people who want to help others, known as philanthropists. But in reality, they are taking advantage of poor and helpless women to make money.
Is Baby Farm based on a true story?
The Netflix drama series Baby Farm is not based on a true story. The characters in the show, like Adanna, and the events that happen to them, are completely fictional, which means they were made up by the writers for entertainment. So, what you see in the show didn’t happen in real life, and no real people were involved in the exact story being shown.
However, the idea behind the show, the concept of something called a “baby farm,” was inspired by some very disturbing things that have really happened in the world, especially in Nigeria. That’s why, even though the show is made up, it feels very real and emotional for many people.
Mo Abudu, who is the boss of EbonyLife (the company that created the series), said that making Baby Farm was a powerful and emotional experience. She explained that the show isn’t just meant to scare or shock people, it’s supposed to tell an important story that reflects real problems in the world. In real life, there have been many reports over the years about something very similar to what is shown in the series, real places in Nigeria known as “baby factories.” These are illegal and secret places where young, unmarried pregnant women are taken. Sometimes they go there willingly because they’re told they will get medical help or a safe place to stay. But once they’re inside, they are trapped and not allowed to leave. After they give birth, their babies are taken away.
In even more horrible cases, reports say that women are kidnapped or forced to stay in these places. Some have even been raped and made pregnant on purpose. Then, after they have the babies, the babies are sold. Some are sold to couples who want to adopt, but others are used for child labor, sent abroad for prostitution, or even killed for ritual purposes.
A human rights expert named Tsitsi Matekaire said that this kind of abuse has been happening in Nigeria for a long time, at least since 2006. She said that these so-called baby factories often hide as orphanages, maternity homes, or religious centers so that people don’t suspect anything. But behind closed doors, they are part of big criminal networks. She explained that what’s happening in these places is a terrible form of sexual abuse and violence, and the victims are usually poor, helpless young women who are tricked, trafficked, or forced into giving birth for someone else’s profit.
So even though Baby Farm is not a true story, it is based on very real and painful situations that many women have gone through. The show was made to tell their story in a powerful way, to entertain people, but also to raise awareness and maybe even help bring change.
