Director George Miller has hinted at another installment in the Mad Max franchise, though it may not be coming anytime soon. In a recent interview with Vulture, Miller revealed that he has received scripts for a potential sequel to Furiosa but remains uncertain about when, or if, it will happen.
“We’ve got another script,” Miller confirmed. However, he emphasized that he has numerous stories in development, saying, “I find myself with way too many stories—not only in my head, but in the form of screenplays or at least very detailed notes that are within reach of screenplays.”
The 79-year-old filmmaker, known for his meticulous world-building, joked about being a “professional daydreamer,” recalling that his school teachers would often note how he was prone to drifting off into his imagination.
While he acknowledges the possibility of another Mad Max film, Miller made it clear that it’s not his immediate priority. “There are two things I’m keen to do next,” he shared. However, he left the door open, adding, “If for whatever reason, the planets align, you can never tell.”
The director also reflected on the unpredictability of filmmaking, stating, “Too often, you’re lining up to do a movie and then something happens. Some things fall into place and some don’t, so all I can say is we’ll see.”
What’s next for Mad Max?
Miller’s latest entry, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, served as a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. The film explored the backstory of Imperator Furiosa, a fan-favorite character originally played by Charlize Theron.
The Mad Max series has been a box office powerhouse, with Fury Road (2015) earning six Academy Awards and Furiosa continuing to expand the post-apocalyptic universe.
While there’s no official confirmation yet, Miller’s comments suggest that another high-octane adventure could be on the horizon—if the right conditions align. Until then, fans can revisit the Mad Max saga, currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
