iOS 18, released on September 16, brings notable upgrades to the iPhone, including new features designed to enhance the user experience. With the arrival of the iPhone 16 series—comprising the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max—Apple has introduced a notable improvement in charging management: a “Slow Charger” warning feature.

The new iOS 18 feature is aimed at helping users optimize their charging practices. The update introduces a “Slow Charger” warning in the Battery section of the iPhone’s Settings app. This alert will notify users when their device is being charged with a slower charger. To visually distinguish between charging speeds, the Battery Level graph will now use an orange color to indicate periods of slow charging, contrasting with the green color that represents faster charging.

Currently, Apple has not disclosed the specific charging speed threshold that triggers the Slow Charger warning. The company has also not provided clear details on what it defines as fast charging speeds. While the iPhone 16 series is speculated to support charging speeds of up to 45W, Apple’s official specifications list USB-C charging at 20W and MagSafe charging at 30W. Apple has yet to confirm whether the iPhone 16 series supports 45W charging.

In addition to the Slow Charger warning, iOS 18 offers users new options for managing battery health. Users can now set a charging cap at 85%, 90%, or 95%, in addition to the previously available 80% limit. This feature aims to extend the battery’s lifespan by preventing overcharging, which can degrade the battery over time.
