Huawei Mate XT triple-screen foldable impresses with slim design, but visible creases raise concerns

The Huawei Mate XT’s standout feature is its triple-screen, dual-folding design that enables users to multitask with multiple app windows at once. However, the display’s creases along the hinges are clearly visible in certain lighting, which may be a concern for some users despite the phone’s overall innovative design.

Huawei has officially launched the Mate XT Ultimate Design in China, marking the debut of the world’s first dual-folding, triple-screen smartphone. As demonstration videos surface online, users are getting a closer look at the unique design and functionality of this revolutionary device.

The Mate XT is shipped in its unfolded position and immediately impresses with its sleek form factor. At just 3.6mm (0.14 inches) thick at its slimmest point, it is notably thinner than the 5.1mm Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Even when fully folded, the Mate XT measures 12.8mm (0.5 inches), which is only slightly thicker than its competitors, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold (10.1mm) and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 (12.1mm). The sleek, ultra-thin design sets it apart in the foldable smartphone market.

Hands-on reviews have highlighted the phone’s ability to display multiple app windows simultaneously. These windows can be resized into custom configurations, making the triple-screen setup highly functional for multitasking. The Mate XT also comes with a specialized phone case that protects the device when folded and doubles as a stand, allowing users to prop the phone up in both folded and unfolded positions.

However, not everything about the Mate XT has impressed early users. Some videos, like those shared by Android Authority, show that the phone’s display creases along both hinges are quite visible at certain angles and lighting conditions. While this is not entirely surprising given the current state of foldable display technology, it may be a sticking point for some potential buyers. Despite this, the creases are barely noticeable when viewed directly, which may help mitigate concerns.

In terms of performance, the phone’s transition between single and dual-screen modes appears smooth, although a small loading wheel has been observed during these transitions in some demonstrations. The display also quickly adapts between horizontal and vertical orientations, showcasing the phone’s versatility.
