Apple’s biggest event of the year is almost here, and fans are eagerly awaiting the reveal of the iPhone 16. The official launch is set for Monday, September 9, and as always, Apple will livestream the event for everyone to watch.
While the excitement is building, you might be wondering: what time is the event? Where can you catch the stream? And what should we expect Apple to announce? Here’s a breakdown of all the important details.
When is the iPhone 16 event?
Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” event is pre-recorded and will stream at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET) on Monday, September 9. You can tune in live or catch it later on demand if you miss it.
While a few members of the press will attend in person at Apple Park, the rest of us can watch comfortably from home. Now, let’s talk about how to do that.
How can I watch the event?
Apple will make the iPhone 16 event available to stream on its website, the Apple TV app, as well as on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube. If you’re watching on your iPhone or iPad, the Apple TV app is probably your easiest option.
The stream will be live across all these platforms, and if you can’t catch it at 10 a.m. PT, don’t worry—you can watch it later at your convenience.
What can we expect at the event?
The star of the show will, of course, be the iPhone 16 lineup. We’re expecting to see the standard iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. What’s new this year? Well, the Pro models are rumored to have bigger screens than the regular versions, with the Pro Max sporting a huge 6.9-inch display!
Another exciting feature is the addition of an Action button on all models. This button, introduced on last year’s iPhone 15 Pro, allows you to customize different functions, like a shortcut for the camera or other tasks. Plus, we’re likely to see a new Capture button designed to improve camera control.
Other possible upgrades include better cameras, faster charging, and fresh color options. And knowing Apple, there might be a few surprises up their sleeve.
What else might be announced?
Besides the iPhone 16, we’re also expecting to hear about the Apple Watch Series 10 and the Apple Watch Ultra 3. The Series 10 could come with a bigger display and might be offered in ceramic and titanium finishes, adding a touch of luxury to your wrist.
There’s also talk of new AirPods! Apple might unveil the fourth-generation AirPods and the AirPods Max 2, featuring upgrades that could match some of the perks currently only available on the AirPods Pro.
Lastly, we’ll finally get the official release dates for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, and other software updates that were previewed at WWDC back in June.
What does the “It’s Glowtime” theme mean?
Apple likes to tease its announcements with cryptic event titles, and “It’s Glowtime” might hint at new color options for the iPhone and Apple Watch or a new visual effect for Siri in iOS 18. When Siri is activated in the latest software, a glowing ring appears around the screen, so this could be a nod to that as well.
What about Apple Intelligence?
At WWDC, Apple also introduced its new AI feature, Apple Intelligence, but the rollout has been slow. Apple has said none of these features will be available when iOS 18 initially launches, but we might get updates on new AI capabilities exclusive to the latest devices during the event.
What likely won’t be announced?
Don’t expect any new Macs just yet. While Apple has been known to hold multiple fall events, like in 2020 and 2021, it’s more likely that new MacBook Airs, Mac minis, and iMacs will be revealed in October, not at this September event.
All in all, this year’s event promises to be exciting, even if much of what’s coming is already known. Keep an eye out for those surprise reveals Apple is famous for!
