Broadway is shining extra bright tonight, June 18, as the biggest stars and shows of the past year get celebrated at the 78th Annual Tony Awards! It’s basically the Oscars of the theatre world, full of sparkle, emotion, and standing ovations. And if you’re someone who loves a bit of drama (the good kind), glittery outfits, and powerhouse performances, you definitely don’t want to miss a second.
Not sure what the Tonys are? No worries! The Tony Awards are like a giant “thank you” party for the best of Broadway. The American Theatre Wing hands them out every year, and they celebrate the most amazing actors, actresses, directors, set designers, and everyone else who works behind the curtain to bring live theater to life.
This year’s nominee list is absolutely stacked with star power: George Clooney, Audra McDonald, Mia Farrow, Jonathan Groff, Sarah Snook, Megan Hilty, Daniel Dae Kim, and Sadie Sink are just a few of the big names in the running. Basically, it’s going to be a night full of famous faces, unforgettable performances, and (hopefully) some emotional speeches.
Want to find out who ends up taking home a shiny Tony Award? We’ve got you covered with all the info on how to tune in and watch the magic unfold.
How to watch the Tony Awards in the US
The show will be hosted by Cynthia Erivo, who is best known for her role in Wicked. The 78th Annual Tony Awards will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The show will begin at 8 PM Eastern Time, which is 5 PM if you’re on the West Coast.
You can watch the Tony Awards on CBS. This channel is available if you have regular cable or a TV antenna. So, if you have a traditional TV setup, you’re good to go. If you don’t have cable, you can still watch the show by using a live TV streaming service. Services like Fubo, Hulu with Live TV, and YouTube TV all carry CBS, so you can use any of those to tune in.
If you already subscribe to any of these services, you can also watch the show on the CBS website or by using the CBS app. You just need to log in with your account to watch it for free.
The Tony Awards will also be available on the streaming service Paramount Plus. If you have the “Paramount Plus with Showtime” plan, you can watch the show live as it airs. If you have the basic Paramount Plus subscription without Showtime, don’t worry, you’ll still be able to watch the full show, but you’ll need to wait until the next day when it becomes available to stream on demand.
