By the time “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” kicks off, Naruto Uzumaki has achieved more in his relatively short life than many people do in a lifetime. From realizing his lifelong dream of becoming the Hokage to saving his best friend’s life and starting a family, Naruto’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable.
When we first meet Naruto in the original “Naruto” series, he’s just a 12-year-old town pariah, ostracized due to being the vessel for the Nine-Tails and his somewhat abrasive personality. Despite facing adversity and feeling like an outsider, Naruto never wavers in his ambition to become the Hokage and earn the respect of his village.
Across “Naruto” and “Naruto Shippuden,” we witness Naruto’s transformation from an awkward adolescent to a skilled shinobi over the course of about five years within the story, paralleling 15 years in real life. By the conclusion of “Naruto Shippuden,” Naruto is approximately 17 years old, having grown significantly from the young boy we first encountered.
As “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” begins, it takes place 15 years after the events of “Naruto Shippuden,” with Naruto now around 32 years old. The focus shifts to Naruto’s son, Boruto, who embarks on his own journey reminiscent of his father’s at the same age. Boruto’s adventures unfold with Naruto serving as both a supportive father figure and the leader of the village.
While the anime adaptation of “Boruto” has yet to reach the scenes depicted in the manga, a time skip does occur in the series, advancing Boruto’s age to around 16. By this point, Naruto would be approximately 36 years old, assuming he’s still alive and well. The passage of time brings new challenges and responsibilities for Naruto, highlighting the ongoing evolution of his character and the legacy he carries as the Seventh Hokage.
