Kevin Feige once expressed his ambitious vision for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, aiming for its endurance even after 80 years. It’s a lofty goal, Kevin, considering the uncertainties surrounding the future of society and entertainment franchises over such a vast span of time. Nonetheless, it’s a compelling dream, though many of us might find ourselves more readily hoping for another 80 years of X-Men ’97.
As Earth-199999 undergoes its ongoing transformations, Beau DeMayo’s X-Men-focused opus has been lifting Marvel Studios’ reputation for well over a month now, with an epic, three-part finale still ahead at the time of this writing.
So, the burning question remains: how much creative nourishment will X-Men ’97 ultimately provide?
As season one of X-Men ’97 reaches its conclusion, viewers will have savored 10 episodes of mutant mayhem. But this is just the beginning, as a second season is already in production, and whispers of a third season linger on the horizon.
While the exact episode count for future seasons remains uncertain, maintaining a similar format of 10 episodes wouldn’t be a risky wager. However, the true test lies in whether season three can sustain the show’s momentum and audience demand.
With Beau DeMayo, the creative force behind the sensational success of the first two seasons, no longer at the helm (the reasons for his departure undisclosed), the pressure falls on his successor to deliver a similarly compelling experience. Of course, there’s always the possibility that Marvel Studios may welcome DeMayo back into the fold before then.
For now, fans can catch X-Men ’97 streaming on Disney Plus, with new episodes premiering every Wednesday until the exhilarating season finale on May 15th.
