Jujutsu Kaisen boasts a rich tapestry of characters, from dedicated jujutsu students and mentors to captivating villains. Yet, amidst this diverse ensemble, none shine quite as brightly as Satoru Gojo.
As the story’s preeminent modern-day sorcerer, Gojo not only exudes charisma with his sunny disposition but also commands unparalleled power. Time and again, he has demonstrated his formidable abilities, posing a significant threat to the series’ antagonists. With Gojo’s presence, challengers find themselves swiftly humbled in combat, making it challenging for most villains to gain the upper hand. Recognizing this, Kenjaku orchestrated a plan to remove Gojo from the equation.
During the Shibuya Incident arc, Kenjaku succeeded in capturing Gojo’s attention long enough to seal him within the Prison Realm, eliminating any chance of a swift escape. With Gojo incapacitated, Kenjaku proceeded with his nefarious plans, launching the Culling Game. However, this solution proved temporary, as Gojo’s students eventually liberated him. Yet, this feat was neither easy nor swift to accomplish.
In the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, Gojo remained sealed in the Prison Realm for 19 days. The sealing occurred on Oct. 31, and liberation came on Nov. 19, marking the conclusion of the Culling Game arc. While nearly three weeks may not seem overly burdensome, especially in a realm where physical time stands still, the lack of stimulation could easily lead to boredom. Nevertheless, Gojo maintained his composure during his internment, patiently awaiting his release.
Although only 19 days passed in the series’ timeline, manga readers endured a much lengthier wait for Gojo’s freedom. He was sealed by Kenjaku in chapter 90 and remained confined until chapter 221, spanning 131 chapters. Given that Gege Akutami releases one Jujutsu Kaisen chapter per week, with occasional breaks, fans endured a three-year wait for Gojo’s triumphant return.
For Gojo enthusiasts, this extended wait was undoubtedly challenging, as they eagerly anticipated the beloved character’s resurgence. However, their joy was short-lived, underscoring the unpredictable nature of Jujutsu Kaisen’s narrative and the emotional investment fans have in its characters, despite the author’s seeming disdain.
