HBO has confirmed to Variety that production is underway, and fans can’t wait to return to Westeros. The cast is currently filming in the U.K., gearing up for a new chapter in the Targaryen family saga. As we move deeper into the story, things are about to get even more intense with the arrival of new characters and, of course, the return of our familiar fire-breathing faves.
Emma D’Arcy, who plays the fierce and determined Rhaenyra Targaryen, made fans’ day by confirming her return through a message on the show’s official Instagram. She’ll be back alongside Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), and Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon).
But that’s not all — new faces are joining the realm too. Tommy Flanagan has been cast as Ser Roderick Dustin, and Dan Fogler will play Ser Torrhen Manderly — two big names from George R.R. Martin’s lore, ready to shake things up in Westeros.
Actor James Norton, who portrays Ormund Hightower, has already teased that this season will lean even further into political maneuvering. So while dragons may rule the skies, it’s the backroom scheming and power games that’ll really drive the drama.
Behind the camera, some familiar names are back. Directors Clare Kilner, Andrij Parekh, and Loni Peristere return, joined by Nina Lopez-Corrado, known for her work on Supernatural and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — expect some visually thrilling episodes.
For those keeping track, House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood and is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. Season 2 laid the groundwork for one of the major upcoming battles — the Battle of the Gullet — so we can expect Season 3 to dive headfirst into war, betrayal, and dragon-fueled chaos.
All in all, Westeros is about to get a whole lot bloodier. And fans? We’re ready.
