The three Israeli hostages who were killed by Israel’s military were waiving a white flag when they were shot, as per the reports on Saturday. Questions abounded in Israel and around the world about how the hostages taken in captivity by Hamas on October 7 were mistakenly identified as a threat on Friday.

The three men were shirtless and had emerged from a building when they came across the Israeli army in Shejaiya, an area in Gaza Strip where intense fighting has been happening in the recent days, as per the reports by Associated Press, citing Israeli military official.

The hostages were identified as Yotam Haim, Samer Talalka, and Alon Shamriz by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in a statement on Friday evening. The IDF also revealed that Haim and Shamriz were abducted by Hamas militants from Kibbutz Kfar Aza while Talalka was taken from Kibbutz Nir Am, both situates in southern Israel.

The IDF acknowledged that during combat, its forces had mistakenly identified the three hostages as threat and shot them, which killed the hostages.
