People have been waiting for Honda to officially reveal the price of the new Prelude coupe. Honda has not said anything yet, but a few dealers in the United States have already given us a strong idea of what it might cost. And honestly, it looks pretty expensive.
A dealer in California called Barber Honda has listed the 2026 Prelude on Autotrader for 43,850 dollars. On its own website, the same car is shown for 42,655 dollars. The difference between the two prices is exactly the same as Honda’s usual destination fee. Because of that, many people believe the real starting price is likely 42,655 dollars.
Two more dealers also have listings. One is in Texas and the other is in Pennsylvania. Both show a price of around 43,650 dollars. We still do not know which versions of the Prelude these are or whether they include any extra features.
Earlier, some reports suggested the Prelude might start at 38,000 dollars. Then the estimate went up to 42,000 dollars. But now these dealer prices are even higher.
If this price holds, the Prelude will be much more expensive than other popular coupes. For example, a Toyota GR86 starts at 30,800 dollars. A Ford Mustang Ecoboost starts at 32,320 dollars. Both are way cheaper.
The Prelude does come with more premium features. It has leather seats and a Bose sound system as standard. It also has a hybrid setup. But the power is not that impressive. It makes around 200 horsepower. A GR86 makes 228 horsepower. The Mustang makes 315 horsepower. The Prelude also does not offer a manual transmission because of its hybrid system.
There is also the comparison with the Nissan Z. The base model of the Z costs 42,970 dollars. It does not have fancy interiors or a premium sound system, but it has a 400 horsepower V6 engine and comes with the option of shifting gears yourself. The Prelude cannot compete with that in terms of performance.
Another interesting comparison is with Honda’s own Civic Type R. The Type R costs 45,895 dollars and makes 315 horsepower. The monthly payments between the Prelude and the Type R would be almost the same, even though the Type R is a far stronger car.
So for now, it looks like the new Prelude will be priced above 43,000 dollars. And many people are already wondering if that price makes sense for what the car actually offers.
