Homemade Gnocchi is a labor of love that results in pillowy potato dumplings that melt in your mouth. This recipe offers a step-by-step guide to creating tender and flavorful gnocchi from scratch, perfect for impressing guests or treating yourself to a delicious meal.
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds russet potatoes
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- Salt to taste
- Optional sauce and toppings of your choice
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Pierce the potatoes with a fork and bake them on a baking sheet until tender, about 45-60 minutes.
- Let the potatoes cool slightly, then peel and mash them while still warm. Spread the mashed potatoes out on a clean surface to cool completely.
- Once cooled, make a well in the center of the mashed potatoes and add the beaten egg and salt. Gradually mix in the flour until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough gently on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, adding more flour if necessary to prevent sticking.
- Divide the dough into smaller portions and roll each portion into a long rope about 1/2 inch thick. Use a knife to cut the rope into bite-sized pieces.
- Optional: Use a fork to create ridges on each gnocchi for texture.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the gnocchi in batches until they float to the surface, then remove them with a slotted spoon and transfer to a plate.
- Serve the Homemade Gnocchi hot with your favorite sauce and toppings. Enjoy these pillowy potato dumplings as a comforting and satisfying meal!
