Hideo Kojima’s upcoming game OD has been one of the most mysterious and anticipated projects in gaming. After the first trailer dropped at the Xbox Showcase during Gamescom, fans were eager for more details. Kojima revealed that he and Jordan Peele are exploring deep personal fears to create a game designed to scare almost everyone.
Tragically, Udo Kier, the legendary actor teased as the game’s mysterious character, passed away at the age of 81 before filming could begin. Kier had an incredible career, appearing in over 220 films, including his iconic role as Count Dracula.
Kojima paid tribute to Kier, calling him an “icon” and sharing memories of their meetings and emails. He revealed that Udo was supposed to shoot his part in 2026, once actor strikes and Kojima’s DS2 release were completed. Kojima described their last meeting in Milan, saying Udo was full of energy and humor, making it even harder to process his loss.
With Udo Kier’s passing, the future of OD is uncertain. Kojima might honor him using his facial and voice scans with VFX technology, or another actor could step in to fill the role. Either way, the legendary presence Udo promised in the game may remain a central question for fans.
