The unveiling of The Fantastic Four cast has stirred excitement among Marvel fans, but one anticipated project that remains on the horizon is the reboot of the Blade movie saga, announced back at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. Mahershala Ali was introduced as the new Blade, set to lead the MCU’s revival of the Daywalker’s iconic story. However, despite the initial announcement, creative challenges behind the scenes have delayed the project, pushing its release date to November 7, 2025.
There have been doubts about whether the film will meet this deadline, considering the prolonged development process. However, recent updates suggest that Ali, who has been actively involved in shaping the script, is satisfied with the story’s direction and eager to begin filming. With production potentially starting later this year, there’s hope that Blade could finally make his return to the big screen in 2026.
In the meantime, there’s speculation that Ali’s portrayal of Blade might debut in another Marvel production, one that has largely slipped under the radar: the Marvel Zombies animated series on Disney Plus. This rumor suggests that Ali could lend his voice to Blade in the series, marking his first appearance as the iconic vampire hunter.
Marvel Zombies, inspired by the popular comics series, imagines a universe where the Avengers are overrun by a zombie apocalypse. Blade has a significant role in the comics storyline, particularly in Marvel Zombies: Resurrection, where he takes on the responsibility of protecting Valeria and Franklin Richards after their parents succumb to zombification. While it might be too early for the Richards siblings to appear in animation, the series could explore a Blade team-up with another youthful character, such as Ms. Marvel, portrayed by Iman Vellani.
Although this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt, it offers hope to fans eagerly awaiting Blade’s return. With much of the Marvel Zombies series still shrouded in mystery, there’s potential for Blade to make an unexpected and exciting debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sooner than anticipated.
