Bitmap Bureau’s retro-style side-scrolling shooter, Terminator 2D: No Fate, has been delayed. The game was originally expected to launch in early September, but publisher Reef Entertainment has now confirmed that it will release on October 31, just in time for Halloween.

In a statement shared on social media, Reef explained that the delay is to give the developers at Bitmap Bureau extra time to polish the game and finalise its day-one patch. As a result, both the digital and physical editions are being held back until the new release date.

What will Terminator 2D: No Fate be based upon?

Terminator 2D: No Fate is a throwback to classic arcade-style action games and reimagines the story of Terminator 2: Judgment Day with a 2D side-scrolling twist. Players will control Sarah Connor and the T-800 as they fight to protect young John Connor from the deadly T-1000. The game also introduces a new playable character, an adult John Connor, featured in future war levels set during humanity’s battle against Skynet.

The game will be available on Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC.

Two physical editions of the game are planned. The standard edition will sell for $60, while the collector’s edition, priced at $120, includes several extras like a reversible sleeve, a cloth poster, a 25mm metal arcade coin with the game’s logo, a full-colour manual, and a special collector’s box.

Although the Terminator franchise has struggled in recent years, most notably with the poor performance of 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate, there’s still life in the exciting series. Director James Cameron has hinted at developing a new Terminator project, and Netflix released an animated series, Terminator Zero, in 2024. For fans of the original films and old-school action games, No Fate looks like a nostalgic return to one of sci-fi’s most iconic universes.
