On the first day, Friday, a total of 24 hostages – including 13 Israeli and 11 foreign nationals – were released, followed by 17 more – 13 Israelis and four foreign nationals – were released on Saturday.

On the second day of the deal, excitement was turned into tension, as Hamas had delayed the hostage release process. The Palestinian militant group claimed that Israel did not upheld its end of the deal, regarding the humanitarian aid and the selection Palestinian prisoners, who were deemed to be freed.

The deal, brokered by Qatar, is designed to see exchange of 50 Israeli hostages for 150 Palestinian prisoners from Israel. Both the sides are expected to prioritize women and children.
