Hailey Bieber has once again landed in hot water with online critics — this time over claims that she echoed a quote famously made by her husband Justin Bieber’s ex, Selena Gomez.
The 28-year-old model and founder of Rhode Skin took the stage at the Daily Front Row’s 9th Annual Fashion Awards to accept the Beauty Innovator Award. In her acceptance speech, she stated:
“When I started Rhode, I didn’t want to start a brand for the sake of starting a brand. I really wanted to create an entire world.”
But sharp-eyed fans were quick to point out the uncanny similarity to what Gomez said back in 2021 in an interview with Spécial Madame Figaro Arabia about her beauty line, Rare Beauty:
“I didn’t want to launch a makeup line for the sake of launching a brand. What interests me is cultivating beauty from the inside.”
The side-by-side comparison of the statements rapidly gained traction online, sparking a deluge of criticism.
“She copies everything,” one user wrote.
“Creepy stalker copycat,” another added.
This isn’t the first time Hailey has been accused of mimicking Gomez, and fans were quick to bring up past alleged “coincidences” — from style choices to social media posts — fueling the narrative of obsession and rivalry.
However, not everyone is buying into the drama. Some users came to Hailey’s defense, noting that the sentiment is hardly unique in the beauty business.
“It’s a common line. Celebs always say they didn’t want to start ‘just another brand,’” one fan wrote.
Another added, “They probably have the same team of ghostwriters or PR people feeding them the same lines.”
For context, Gomez, now 32, had a long and public on-again-off-again relationship with Justin Bieber before their final split in 2018. Hailey married the pop star shortly thereafter, and the triangle has remained a lightning rod for fan theories, tabloid drama, and social media skirmishes.
The timing of the controversy has added fuel to the fire, as rumors swirl around possible tension in the Bieber household. Speculation about marital strife has grown louder in recent weeks, prompting Justin to push back with a cryptic post.
“Hard not to be jealous when me and wifey going brazzzzyy,” he wrote, attempting to shut down the gossip mill.
Whether the statement was pure coincidence, a PR script, or something more pointed, one thing is clear: in the ongoing saga of Hailey, Justin, and Selena — the internet never misses a beat.
