Rapper and fashion icon Gucci Mane is sharing a deeply personal side of his life in his new memoir, Episodes. In the book, he reveals that he has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. In a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, Gucci and his wife, Keyshia Ka’Oir, spoke honestly about his struggles and how she has been his biggest support in managing his mental health.
Keyshia explained that being with Gucci for so many years helped her recognize early signs that something was wrong. When he starts withdrawing from people, refusing to eat or sleep, or sending short, emotionless texts, she knows he might be having an episode. She said she takes action immediately, deleting social media apps and removing outside distractions so he can focus on resting and healing. Keyshia shared that when these signs appear, she tells him directly that he’s sick, even when he denies it, and that honesty helps them both stop the episode from getting worse.
In Episodes, Gucci Mane opens up about his journey of recovery and learning to live with his mental health challenges. This is his third book after The Autobiography of Gucci Mane (2018) and The Gucci Mane Guide to Greatness. Like his earlier works, this memoir is published by Simon & Schuster. But unlike the others, Episodes goes deeper into his emotions, his struggles with addiction, and the lessons he’s learned about self-control and self-awareness. Gucci said he hopes his story will help others dealing with addiction and mental illness to feel less alone.
During the interview, Gucci also compared some of his past behavior to what he’s seen in other celebrities like Kanye West, mentioning that during manic periods, he would give away expensive jewelry without thinking. Looking back, he realized how people took advantage of him during those vulnerable moments. Since then, he has learned to set boundaries and cut ties with those who did not have his best interests at heart.
Talking about his latest album, Gucci said that it shows a softer, more emotional side of him, one that fans rarely see. He described it as a reflection of his growth, both as an artist and as a person.
Gucci’s story also includes years of legal troubles. He has been arrested multiple times on charges such as assault, firearm possession, and probation violations. After serving a sentence for federal gun charges, he was released in 2016. But one of the most powerful parts of his story is the role his wife played while he was behind bars. In 2014, before going to prison, Gucci gave Keyshia $2 million to take care of herself. Instead of spending it, she invested the money wisely and grew it into $6 million by the time he came home.
Through all his ups and downs, Gucci Mane’s journey is one of survival, growth, and love. With Episodes, he’s showing fans that even those who seem larger than life can face real struggles — and that healing is possible when you have the right support and self-awareness.
