After spending 20 years playing Dr. Miranda Bailey on Grey’s Anatomy, Chandra Wilson is finally finding time to actually watch the show that made her famous. In a recent red carpet chat with PEOPLE, just before the Disney 2025 Upfront event, Wilson, now 55, revealed she started binge-watching the series during the COVID-19 lockdown but only made it through season 3 before real life pulled her back to work. “I stopped, and then I haven’t gone back since,” she admitted. “So it’s time, right? I need to know what they’re talking about.”
Wilson and James Pickens Jr., who plays Dr. Richard Webber, are the only original cast members still regularly appearing on the show. Even after two decades, Wilson says she has no plans to quit, especially since she still loves playing Bailey. She enjoys showing new sides of the character and even joked about how Bailey’s hairstyles keep changing, which keeps things fresh.
She also praised the show’s teamwork and ongoing energy, saying, “It’s really exciting, and as long as they want us to do it, hey, we’ll be here to do it.” With season 22 coming this fall and the show approaching its 450th episode, Wilson shared that the cast and crew have already started celebrating this huge milestone.
Although she’s not sure what surprises season 22 might hold, Wilson is excited to keep telling these stories with the cast and crew she now considers family. And who knows—now that she’s finally catching up on the episodes, she’ll finally understand what fans have been hooked on for the last 20 years.
