Kristen Bell, the 44-year-old actress known for voicing the iconic Gossip Girl, recently revealed an amusing tidbit: she had no idea where the beloved series was actually filmed. In an interview with Bustle, Bell explained that she never visited the show’s set because she recorded all her lines from a studio in Los Angeles.
In her conversation, Bell talked about how detached she felt from the filming locations of Gossip Girl, which is set in the Upper East Side of New York City. “The funny thing is, as Gossip Girl, I was only on a microphone in Los Angeles; I was never shooting with them,” she said. When her interview partner, Adam Brody, who is married to Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, jokingly said the show was filmed in Montreal, Bell initially took him seriously, responding with, “Okay, first time hearing of it.” It wasn’t until Brody clarified that the filming actually took place in New York that Bell realized he was teasing her. “Oh, New York. You were joking?” she laughed.
Brody jokingly remarked, “You can see how involved she was,” to which Bell added that her main job was simply to “get on the mic and give the sass” as the enigmatic Gossip Girl.
Reflecting on her career, Bell fondly recalled her early work with Meester on Veronica Mars, reminiscing about the many scenes they shared, especially a storyline involving Meester’s character and a teacher.
Since her time on Gossip Girl, Bell has taken on a variety of roles, including in Frozen and The Good Place. However, she emphasizes the importance of balancing her career with her family life. Speaking with PEOPLE, she mentioned that she’s learning to prioritize her time, especially as she navigates life with her husband, Dax Shepard, and their two daughters, Lincoln and Delta. Although Bell admits that it’s challenging to say no due to her “people-pleaser” nature, she is working on carving out moments for relaxation, stating, “I like pausing a lot. I find it vital.”
