A consumer piracy lawsuit seeking at least $5 billion in damages over allegations that Google has tracked the users who were under the impression that they were browsing the internet privately has been settled. No terms have been disclosed.

The “incognit” mode on Google’s Chrome browser still followed the user’s history, as revealed by the emails during the trial. The data was used by the tech giant to sell ads.

The judge in the case confirmed a preliminary agreement to settle the class action lawsuit, originally filed in 2020.
