Google is finally bringing its Gemini AI to Chromebooks. The feature first appeared on Windows and Mac months ago. Now, select ChromeOS devices can start testing it. This is happening through the newest Canary builds of Chrome. It is the first step to making Gemini’s browser tools widely available for Chromebook users.
Gemini AI in Chrome mow on ChromeOS
Gemini in Chrome allows you to use an AI assistant right inside your browser. You do not need to open a separate app. It can read your open tabs, summarise webpages, and compare information across multiple sites. It can even use data from pages you visited before to answer your questions.
For example, if you are planning a vacation, Gemini can help organise flights, hotels, and activities across several tabs. If you are shopping online, it can compare products from different websites for you. Everything happens within Chrome, so you do not have to switch apps or copy text manually.
Google has confirmed that Gemini will start rolling out with Chrome version 144 on ChromeOS. The rollout begins with a few selected devices and will expand gradually. There is no confirmed date for when it will be available for all Chromebook users.
What this Means for Chromebook users
The feature is arriving later than some expected. Its presence in the Canary builds shows development is moving forward. Once fully available, Gemini in Chrome could change how Chromebook users browse, research, and shop online. Having AI built directly into the browser could save time and make tasks easier.
