Good news has emerged for fans of “Good Omens.” The popular Prime Video series, originally conceived by Neil Gaiman, is based on the 1990 fantasy novel co-authored by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Season 1 brought to life the tale of the angel Aziraphale, portrayed by Michael Sheen, and the demon Crowley, played by David Tennant, who joined forces to thwart the emergence of the Antichrist. Season 2, which premiered on July 28, introduced a fresh narrative within the same universe.

Recently, Gaiman addressed fan inquiries regarding the potential for a third season of “Good Omens” on the Bluesky social media platform. When asked, “Now that the strikes are over, are you going to start writing Good Omens Season 3?,” he unequivocally responded, “Yes.” Another user inquired if the show had been officially renewed for a third season, to which he clarified, “No, but I’ve been hired to write one.”

While this development is undoubtedly promising, it’s important to note that the confirmation of “Good Omens” Season 3 is not set in stone. Prime Video may choose to pass on the scripts for various reasons, including creative considerations, budget constraints, or scheduling conflicts. Nevertheless, the fact that progress is being made towards the next phase of production is an encouraging sign.

Interestingly, the headway on Season 3 is notably faster compared to the renewal process for Season 2. Season 2’s official renewal came in June 2021, more than two years after the debut of Season 1. This delay may be attributed to the show’s original conception as a miniseries, as well as its premiere shortly before the global disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the scripts currently in development, it appears likely that Prime Video will make an announcement regarding the renewal of Season 3 in a more expedited manner. This increased confidence may stem from the positive critical reception Season 2 has garnered, much like its predecessor, achieving an 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. If Season 3 gets the official green light, the remaining obstacles would primarily involve reassembling the “Good Omens” cast and kickstarting production. This could potentially lead to a significantly shorter turnaround time between seasons.
