Is Draymond Green still the GOAT?
The Golden State Warriors have been one of the NBA’s greatest teams in recent years, winning four championships during the Stephen Curry era. One constant in all those title runs has been Draymond Green, the team’s fiery leader and defensive specialist who has played a huge role alongside Curry.
Draymond’s value to the Warriors is undeniable. His defence, ability to create plays, leadership on and off the court, and passion have helped make Golden State a dynasty. No matter how many times people try to replace him, he’s irreplaceable for the team’s success.
But now, the Warriors may be facing a tough reality: Is it finally time for a change and trade Draymond Green?
While Draymond Green still has an extremely high basketball IQ and knows how to impact the game, his physical skills are declining with age, something every athlete has to face eventually.
In fact, the Warriors’ core players, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler, are all getting older. The team may need fresh legs and younger stars to keep competing at the top level in the coming years.
With Curry clearly staying put as the franchise’s cornerstone, some are asking if Draymond might be the player who moves on.
On Tuesday, Bleacher Report writer Greg Swartz suggested a fascinating trade idea: Golden State could trade Draymond Green to acquire Domantas Sabonis, one of the NBA’s best big men right now.
Sabonis, 29, has been one of the league’s top rebounders for three years running and is known for his excellent passing skills, second only to superstar Nikola Jokić among big men. On top of that, he shot an impressive 41.7% from three-point range last season, making him a versatile offensive threat.
If Golden State could bring Sabonis in, he would form a powerful trio with Curry and Butler, giving coach Steve Kerr a ton of options on offence.
Of course, trading away Draymond would be emotional for Warriors fans and the team. Green has been a heart and soul player, a vocal leader, and a crucial piece of the franchise’s identity.
But from a purely basketball standpoint, adding Sabonis could help keep the Warriors competitive at the highest level for years to come.
So the Warriors have a tough decision ahead: hold onto a beloved veteran whose best days may be behind him, or trade for a younger star to keep their championship window open.
