Glen Powell, the charming actor who captured hearts with his role in Top Gun: Maverick, recently disclosed that he came close to securing the part of Ernest Lawrence in Christopher Nolan’s biopic Oppenheimer, only to narrowly miss out on the opportunity. Ultimately, Josh Hartnett was cast as the Nobel-winning physicist who collaborated with J. Robert Oppenheimer.
Despite missing out on the chance to be part of the Oscar-winning film, Powell remains optimistic about collaborating with Nolan in the future, expressing his faith that they will have the opportunity to work together soon.
Powell’s rise to fame has been a gradual journey in the entertainment industry. Although he began his acting career in 2003 with a role in Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, it wasn’t until his supporting role in Top Gun: Maverick that he gained widespread recognition. However, his popularity soared with standout performances in films like Anyone But You alongside Sydney Sweeney in 2023 and the upcoming action comedy Hit Man, where he portrays an undercover police contractor posing as a hitman.
Looking ahead, Powell has several exciting projects in the pipeline. He is set to star in Twisters, a standalone sequel to the 1996 film, which is scheduled for release in July. Additionally, he’s involved in the development of projects like a Captain Planet reboot and a remake of Stephen King’s The Running Man.
Despite being a fan of the Jurassic Park franchise, Powell recently turned down a role in the untitled Jurassic World 4 sequel, believing that his presence wouldn’t add value to the film. While he declined the opportunity, he praised the script and wished the cast and crew the best for the project.
