Glen Powell is joining forces with comedy heavyweight Judd Apatow for an exciting new untitled comedy at Universal. Powell, known for his recent roles in Twisters and Hit Man, will not only star in the film but also co-write the script, while Apatow will direct and produce. This marks a fresh and dynamic collaboration, with the two talents combining their strengths to create something special.
The film will follow the story of a country western star who faces a major fall from grace. Although the project remains untitled, it’s already been fast-tracked by Universal, showcasing the confidence the studio has in the creative duo. Powell continues to prove his versatility, transitioning from just a leading man to a skilled writer, following his successful collaboration with Richard Linklater on Hit Man.
Apatow, the mastermind behind comedy classics like Trainwreck, Knocked Up, and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, brings his trademark comedic sensibility to the film. His long-standing partnership with Universal will ensure the project is packed with the sharp humor he’s known for. The film will be produced through Apatow Productions, continuing his nearly two-decade relationship with the studio.
Joining Powell and Apatow in the production process are Dan Cohen, who will produce through his Barnstorm banner, and Kevin Misher of Misher Films, another Universal veteran. Erik Baiers, Universal’s EVP of Production Development, will oversee the project, ensuring everything stays on track.
This film marks Powell’s second project with Universal after the box-office smash Twisters, which grossed over $372 million. His upcoming slate is looking even more exciting, with roles in Barry Jenkins’ The Natural Order, Edgar Wright’s The Running Man, a project with J.J. Abrams, and Hulu’s Chad Powers.
With Powell’s rising star power and Apatow’s comedy genius, the untitled film is already generating buzz as one of the most anticipated releases. Fans can look forward to a mix of sharp wit and emotional depth, showcasing the best of both talents. As production ramps up, this collaboration promises to deliver something truly special on the big screen.
