Sony has confirmed that Ghost of Yotei has officially surpassed the sales of its predecessor. The game has also played a major role in boosting Sony’s overall financial performance. This confirms what many suspected after launch. Ghost of Yotei is not just a critical success. It is a commercial one too.
Developed by Sucker Punch, Ghost of Yotei launched on October 2, 2025 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. The game received strong reviews and picked up multiple end of year award nominations. More importantly, it continued selling well long after launch.
Ghost of Yotei’s sales performance breaks records
Sony’s chief financial officer Lin Tao revealed that Ghost of Yotei sold 3.3 million units in its first 32 days. According to Tao, the game exceeded the sales of Ghost of Tsushima during the same launch window and significantly contributed to Sony’s quarterly results.
Early signs already pointed toward success. Reports showed the game earned over $140 million in revenue within just 3 days of release. That alone meant the game had already doubled its development budget in under a week.
At the time, sales appeared to be slightly behind Ghost of Tsushima. However, continued strong momentum helped Ghost of Yotei pull ahead, making it one of Sony’s biggest titles of late 2025.
Why Ghost of Yotei’s success is even more impressive
Ghost of Tsushima launched late in the PlayStation 4 lifecycle when the console had a much larger player base. It also released during the early pandemic period, when game sales surged worldwide.
Ghost of Yotei did not have those advantages. The PlayStation 5 user base is smaller by comparison. The game also launched at a higher $70 price point. Despite this, it still managed to outperform its predecessor.
Another key factor is budget. Sucker Punch confirmed that Ghost of Yotei cost around $60 million to develop, roughly the same as Ghost of Tsushima. That relatively modest budget, by AAA standards, made profitability easier to achieve.
What’s next for Ghost of Yotei in 2026
The strong sales appear to be just the beginning. A PC release is widely expected in the future, possibly around the game’s first anniversary. A PC launch would likely push sales even higher.
Sucker Punch has also confirmed that the co-op Legends mode will return in 2026. This mode was extremely popular in Ghost of Tsushima. The new version will feature two-player story missions, four-player survival matches, new classes, and powerful demonic enemies tied to the Yotei Six.
With more content on the way and strong word of mouth, Ghost of Yotei is shaping up to remain one of Sony’s most important franchises moving forward.
