Joe Rogan’s immensely popular podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” is not only a powerhouse in the world of spoken-word content but also a significant driver of music streams for artists featured on the show. Spotify, which hosts Rogan’s podcast, recently unveiled new statistics highlighting the impact of Rogan’s platform on music consumption, particularly following guest appearances.
Grammy-winning blues guitarist and singer Gary Clark Jr. was the latest guest on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” coinciding with the release of his latest album, “JPEG RAW.” During the episode, Clark Jr. performed his song “Habits” live in the podcast studio, marking a first for Rogan’s show. The result was a substantial surge in Clark Jr.’s music streams on Spotify.
In the 72 hours following the episode’s release on Friday, March 22, Clark Jr. experienced a remarkable increase in streams, with a 180% rise in the U.S. and a 150% increase globally compared to previous daily averages in March. The impact was even more pronounced among “JRE” fans, with a 500% surge in global streams of Clark Jr.’s music among listeners of “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
Additionally, Spotify noted an 80% uptick in global user-generated playlist additions of Clark Jr.’s track “Habits.” These figures underscore the significant influence that Rogan’s podcast wields in driving music discovery and engagement among its vast audience.
Rogan’s podcast consistently dominates Spotify’s U.S. charts and has been a mainstay atop the platform’s year-end rankings for the past three years. While Rogan’s recent $250 million deal renewal with Spotify expanded distribution beyond the platform’s exclusivity, the company continues to manage distribution and ad sales for “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
Spotify has observed a similar phenomenon with other podcasts, such as Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy,” which has also led to substantial increases in song streams for music guests after their appearances.
Despite Rogan’s podcast occasionally courting controversy, Spotify remains steadfast in recognizing its broader impact and influence across various content verticals. As Rogan’s platform continues to evolve, Spotify anticipates further synergies between podcasting and music streaming, amplifying the reach and engagement of both mediums.
