Two of the most famous voices on TV just shared a rare moment together. George Gray from The Price Is Right and Jim Thornton from Wheel of Fortune reunited at the SOVAS Voice Arts Awards.
Both announcers were presenters at the event. George Gray shared the moment on Instagram on January 20. He called it a great night and said it was special to work alongside Jim Thornton.
In a short video, Gray greeted fans and said he was honored to be presenting. He then revealed the surprise. Jim Thornton appeared beside him. Gray jokingly said his famous catchphrase and invited him in.
Thornton laughed and waved. He shouted out his mom and mentioned being from West Virginia. The two joked about presenting together and clearly enjoyed the moment. Thornton ended by saying he loved Gray.
The Voice Arts Awards are hosted by the Society of Voice Arts and Sciences. The event celebrates voice talent across animation, audiobooks, video games, commercials, and television. This year’s ceremony took place on January 18 in Los Angeles.
Neither Gray nor Thornton were nominated. Still, their presence mattered. Both men have shaped game show television for years. George Gray became the announcer for The Price Is Right in 2011. That same year, Jim Thornton took over announcing duties for Wheel of Fortune.
Thornton’s voice is heard nightly as he introduces Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White. He also announces prizes and the final winnings. Outside of Wheel of Fortune, he has worked on shows like Celebrity Deathmatch, The Cleveland Show, and Tim and Eric Awesome Show. He also spent time as a news anchor in Los Angeles.
George Gray is best known as the voice behind Come on down. He announces contestants, prizes, and host Drew Carey on The Price Is Right. He has also narrated other shows, including Car Science.
Even though their shows film on different lots, the two announcers appear to share a real friendship. After years in the same industry, their reunion felt natural and warm.
The Price Is Right airs weekdays on CBS. Wheel of Fortune airs weekdays with local listings and streams the next day.
