In the world of pop music, Sabrina Carpenter is proving that when it comes to romance, sometimes the best things come in small packages. The “Nonsense” singer has been making waves with her latest album, “Short n’ Sweet,” and it seems her love life is just as intriguing as her catchy tunes.

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and have a look at Sabrina’s dating history

Bradley Steven Perry

Back in 2014, during her time on Girl Meets World, Sabrina Carpenter started dating fellow Disney actor Bradley Steven Perry. Carpenter opened up to J-14 about the unique way their romance began. “[It was a] really unique way to ask someone out,” she said. “[It was] like the pirate movies, like, they do the little bottles and they put notes in them and send them across the ocean, like one of those, and [he] put a note inside. It was cute.”

Although the couple broke up after a year, they seem to have remained on good terms. Recently, Bradley complimented Sabrina on his podcast, The Sit and Chat, stating, “My first girlfriend’s doin’ way better than anybody, mostly in the world, I would say. She’s way too good for this podcast.”

Joshua Bassett

Sabrina famously dated another fellow Disney star, Joshua Bassett, in the summer and fall of 2020. Their relationship came to light after Bassett’s split from Olivia Rodrigo, inspiring the latter’s hit song “drivers license.” The ensuing drama prompted Carpenter to write her own songs, including “Skin,” while Bassett released “Crisis” as his version of the story. Further, she also released a song  “because i liked a boy” about the hate she received while all the drama unfolded.

Despite their short-lived romance, Carpenter and Bassett shared several cute moments, one of the most memorable being when they dressed up as Sharkboy and Lavagirl for Halloween, sharing pictures and videos of their costumes. By 2021, Bassett confirmed in an interview with GQ that he was single.

Shawn Mendes

In January 2023, Sabrina was spotted with Shawn Mendes, and shortly after, the two were seen leaving Miley Cyrus’s release party together. However, their fling seemed to be cut short after Mendes reunited with his on-and-off girlfriend, Camila Cabello. Carpenter seemingly referenced their split in her album Short n’ Sweet.

In the track “Taste,” she issues a warning to her ex-lover’s new girlfriend, predicting the moves he’s pulling with his rebound since she has witnessed them firsthand. In the chorus, she sings: “I heard you’re back together and if that’s true / You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you.” In the second verse, she offers another clue: “He’s funny, now all his jokes hit different / Guess who he learned that from?”

Fans have speculated that these lyrics refer to Mendes and Cabello.

Barry Keoghan

Sabrina and Irish actor Barry Keoghan first sparked dating rumours in December 2023 when they were spotted together in Los Angeles. By February 2024, the couple was photographed at a W magazine afterparty, and their relationship was confirmed later that month by People.

Since then, Keoghan and Carpenter have gone on double dates with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, and Keoghan has been seen wearing bracelets with her name on them. They made a significant public appearance in June when Carpenter released her “Please Please Please” music video, featuring Keoghan as her on-screen boyfriend.

In August, rumours of a breakup began to circulate. The Saltburn*actor appeared to address these rumours by liking Carpenter’s Instagram post promoting her album and newest song, “Needless to Say,” perhaps confirming their ongoing relationship. A source revealed to People that the couple was “on and off.”

Amid the split rumours, Carpenter spoke to The Guardian about her experience working with Keoghan on “Please Please Please.” She stated it was “one of the best experiences I’ve ever had,” adding, “I’m very honoured and I got to work with such a great actor!” She even playfully mocked her own coy diplomacy in a nasal voice, repeating, “Such a great actor!”

With the recent release of Short n’ Sweet, fans have been dissecting her lyrics for clues about her relationship with Keoghan. One song, “Bed Chem,” seems to reference the sexual chemistry between two lovers. The song begins with Carpenter recalling a meet-cute moment, reminiscing about wearing a “sheer dress” and asking, “Who is the cute boy with the white jacket and the thick accent?” Fans have linked these lyrics to Keoghan, who reportedly first met Carpenter at Givenchy’s Spring-Summer 2024 show in September 2023 while wearing a white jacket.

While Carpenter doesn’t directly name the lover she sings about, she does offer more lyrical clues that appear to reference Keoghan. She describes her man as a “cute guy with the wide, blue eyes” and “not in my timezone.”

On August 27, Keoghan sparked further speculation about their relationship status when he commented on an Instagram post featuring Carpenter and her “Taste” music video co-star Jenna Ortega as Bratz dolls, asking, “Can I have one?”
