Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are back together more than twenty years after their first Freaky Friday adventure in 2003. This time, the story gets even crazier. Anna, played by Curtis, and her daughter Harper, played by Julia Butters, end up switching bodies again. But the chaos doesn’t stop there. Anna’s soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily, played by Sophia Hammons, also gets caught up in the mix. The result is a series of hilarious and wild swaps across generations.
Critics gave Freakier Friday a 74% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences loved it even more, giving it a 91% “Popcornmeter” rating from over 2,500 reviews. The sequel actually outshined the original in audience approval, though the 2003 movie still has a slightly higher critics’ score at 88%.
The film also performed strongly at the box office. With its fun story and nostalgic charm, it earned $153 million worldwide against a $45 million budget. In North America, it collected $94.2 million, while international markets contributed $58.9 million.
After its theatrical run, Freakier Friday became available for digital purchase and rental in early October. Fans won’t have to wait long for streaming either, as the film will debut on Disney+ on November 12. This adds another chapter to Disney’s Freaky Friday legacy, joining the 1976 Jodie Foster original and the 2018 musical version.
