Brooke Shields is set to return to the tropical setting that made her famous in The Blue Lagoon, but this time with a comedic twist. She will team up with Saturday Night Live alum David Spade for Almost Paradise, a sitcom currently in development at Fox. The show is being written by Modern Family’s Danny Zuker and produced by Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.

Almost Paradise is described as a mix of The Blue Lagoon and Gilligan’s Island, centering on a married couple who have been stranded on a deserted island for decades. However, unlike the dramatic survival story of The Blue Lagoon, this version will take a lighthearted, family-friendly approach.

The idea for the show came from a casual meeting between Shields and producer Aaron Kaplan, which later led to Spade joining the project. Shields and Spade previously worked together on NBC’s Just Shoot Me!, where Zuker was also a producer. While formal deals haven’t been signed yet, both actors have been actively involved in the show’s development and pitch meetings. If the series moves forward, they are expected to star as the lead characters, Brooke and David, depending on scheduling.

Fox has already ordered two scripts for Almost Paradise, signaling a potential shift back to multi-camera sitcoms after years of focusing on single-camera comedies. The network has previously worked with Spade, Kaplan, and Zuker on projects like Snake Oil and HouseBroken, while Shields has experience in multi-camera comedies, having starred in Suddenly Susan.

With a strong creative team and two well-known comedic actors at the helm, Almost Paradise could be a fresh and nostalgic addition to Fox’s comedy lineup, offering a fun spin on survival stories with a modern comedic edge.
