Florida State head coach Mike Norvell did not mince words following his team’s disappointing 28-13 loss to Boston College on Monday night. The defeat, which marked the Seminoles’ second consecutive loss to an ACC opponent, has left the defending conference champions reeling with a shocking 0-2 start to the season.
“I’m sick to how this season started. Tonight, I failed in preparing the team to go out and respond,” Norvell said in his post-game press conference, his frustration palpable. The Seminoles, who entered the season with high expectations, have struggled to find their rhythm, and the coach did not shy away from accepting responsibility for the team’s poor performance.
Monday night’s game at Alumni Stadium saw Florida State fall behind early, with Boston College capitalizing on the Seminoles’ mistakes both offensively and defensively. Despite flashes of promise, Florida State was unable to sustain momentum, and a string of missed opportunities sealed their fate.
The loss has sent shockwaves through the college football community, as the Seminoles, once considered a strong contender for a return to the College Football Playoff, now face an uphill battle to salvage their season. Norvell, in his third year at the helm, acknowledged the challenges ahead but emphasized the need for immediate improvement.
“We have to be better in every aspect,” Norvell continued. “It’s my job to make sure this team is prepared, and clearly, I didn’t do that tonight. We have to regroup, refocus, and come out stronger.”
With two conference losses already on the books, the road ahead for Florida State is fraught with difficulty. The Seminoles must now turn their attention to their next game, where they will look to rebound and restore some of the confidence that has been lost in these early-season setbacks. For Norvell and his team, the margin for error has all but vanished, making the coming weeks critical in determining the course of their season.
